Prior to establishing S. Ricci & Co. in 1986, Susan Ricci honed her skills and experience working for hotel brands starting with Sonesta Hotels, where she held sales and marketing positions corporately covering the U.S. Northeast, Canada, the Bahamas and Bermuda. She left Sonesta to become director of marketing for New York City’s St. Regis Hotel before joining Omni Hotels and Resorts, where she served as general manager of the Berkshire Place Hotel and, later, general manager of the 1,800-room Hotel Pennsylvania, overseeing the successful re-positioning of these Manhattan properties following extensive renovations and changes in brand affiliation.
Ricci then moved into hotel development where, as vice president of development for Omni, she was responsible for site and hotel evaluations, management contract negotiations and owner relations. During this period, the company doubled in size, entered new markets and launched new product concepts.
As a consultant, Ricci functions most often as a specialized “hands-on” advisor, assuming direct responsibility for the various and specific components of technical services, integrated marketing activities and operations management. Additionally, Ricci has provided a wide range of clients with expertise in the evaluation and financial feasibility of hotel acquisitions and the negotiation of hotel management and franchise agreements. The firm has been engaged by hotel owners and developers to represent their interests with third-party management companies in the evaluation of financial budgets and operating and marketing plans. The ability to successfully evaluate a hotel’s unique business environment and market dynamics and provide effective business strategies for financial success has become her firm’s trademark. Ricci is a member of the International Society of Hospitality Consultants.
