Swissôtel Chicago has finished a US$10 million renovation of its lobby and meeting space that began last December.

Inspired by the work of the building’s original architect, Harry Weese, the 661-key property’s lobby has been transformed with a modern design emphasizing natural elements and an earth tone palette set off by dramatic splashes of color, art and lighting. An artistic rainstorm, for example, is created via thousands of dangling glass bulb fixtures, and backlit glass panels etched with the Chicago skyline sit just behind the check-in area.

Check-in pods have replaced the traditional front desk, and front desk agents now work from laptop computers. The concierge will be armed with tablets, and a Nervana Ghost Wall will act as a digital concierge for guests.

New F&B outlet Amuse is also located in the lobby, offering seasonal small plates and shareable dishes paired with signature cocktails and wines.

The hotel’s 65,000 sq ft (6,039 sq m) of renovated meeting space includes the 6,016 sq ft (559 sq m) Lucerne room, the 2,560 sq ft (238 sq m) Alpine room and the 43rd-floor Edelweiss Penthouse.
