Marriott debuts on-property small meetings concept

Marriott International announced on Wednesday that its namesake brand is debuting a new small meetings offering at a Seattle-area property.

Marriott International, Bethesda, Maryland, has partnered with office furniture company Steelcase Inc. to offer Workspring at Marriott. The concept is a suite of studios and community spaces designed for collaborative working for up to 75 people.

Workspring at Marriott is being debuted at the 262-room Redmond Marriott Town Center, located in Redmond, Washington. The property owner, Apple REIT Six Inc., Richmond, Virginia, paid the capital expenditures for the Workspring installation.

Marriott said it will assess the concept's success there before planning expansion. The concept was initially tested at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, where a nearby stand-alone Workspring was sold to customers.

“We are seizing the opportunity to offer the new generation of travelers a small meetings environment built to suit their collaborative work style,” said Paul Cahill, senior vice president of brand management for Marriott Hotels & Resorts. “We expect to demonstrate the meaningful value of Workspring by Marriott in Redmond, and are identifying other markets in the U.S. and around the globe that would similarly benefit from this exciting concept.”

Workspring at Marriott offers an inclusive pricing structure that includes the meeting space, technology, wireless Internet access, office supplies and food and beverage and provides customers with a dedicated host that handles all needs. Customers must book in advance to use Workspring and pay a per-person rate that is all-inclusive. Customers do not need to be spending the night on-property to book Workspring.
