What’s Hot: Hyatt Regency Minneapolis renovation

Hyatt Regency Minneapolis has completed a US$25 million renovation of its guestrooms, suites, public areas and restaurants.

Stonehill & Taylor is responsible for the architecture and interior design; a joint venture of affiliates of Starwood Capital Group, Haberhill and Hyatt Hotels funded the project.

The property’s 533 guestrooms and suites have a palette of indigos, cool grays and warm golds, inspired by Minnesota’s lakes and the horizon. Rooms feature leather headboards, navy carpeting, and mid-century Scandinavian walnut desks. Newly remodeled bathrooms have light gray wall coverings, dark tile, and Scandinavian-style mirrors.

Original artwork in the guestrooms includes a blue and white aerial view of Minneapolis by Dennis Ekstedt and a rendering of Ingrid Bergman made of Minnesota-based 3M masking tape by Mark Khaisman. Guestroom corridors feature artwork by Rosemary Dumar, inspired by Minnesota’s geography, as well as new carpeting and lighting.

The décor references the region’s historic industries. Logs frame the stone fireplace in the lobby, inspired by Minnesota’s timber mills. A sunken living room surrounds the fireplace; the space has split-timber walls and fixtures in relaxing earth tones. A large log with Scandinavian-style seatbacks seats three.

The new Prairie Kitchen & Bar serves locally grown and seasonal fare. The local historic flour milling industry inspires the restaurant’s design, with factory pulleys holding oversized pendants. The bar, made of walnut and mirrored panels, is the centerpiece of the space. Hyatt Regency Minneapolis also offers Market, a deli-style concept with a variety of options at all hours.

The majority of the design products used in the renovation were made within 500 miles of Minneapolis; 80 percent of furnishings are from the U.S. and Canada.
