Hot Openings: Hard Rock Hotel launches in Panama

The Hard Rock Hotel Panama Megapolis is now open.

The 1,468-key hotel occupies a 66-story tower in Panama City.

Guestroom floors are decorated with a graphic rock artist wall cover that varies by floor, along with memorabilia and art. The carpets incorporate a tribal tattoo theme. Guestrooms themselves have a modern look with a large wall graphic and rock art as well as dark wood millwork and purple and orange highlights.

Hard Rock’s in-house VP of Design and Development Joe Emanuele led the project. The lobby has eclectic seating (including a large pink pouf), custom light fixtures, and memorabilia, and the space includes a bar.

The reception area has 60 ft of video screens and custom pendant lights. Across from the desk, a drum set from Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers sits atop an internally lit stage. The wall by the escalator features wine-colored glass and an art installation made from hundreds of cymbals in a tribal tattoo design.

The Hard Rock Hotel Panama Megapolis has 11 bars, four restaurants and a nightclub. The Base Bar, on the lobby level, has a double-length bar and memorabilia from Hard Rock’s annual concerts in London’s Hyde Park. Stage Bar has a purple, internally lit bar that separates a pub-like area from the live music venue. Mamie Lee Kelly’s bar has a mirrored ceiling with strings of crystals. Express-O, a grab-and-go coffee bar, is decorated with photos of rock artists drinking coffee and memorabilia.

Ciao serves tapas and pizza in a space with green onyx floors and floor-to-ceiling windows. Soy, the Asian fusion restaurant, has a focus on sake cocktails; the space has a palette of bright colors, a large anime-style graphic and an orchid neon sculpture. Tauro, a steak and seafood restaurant with its own meat aging room, draws inspiration from a Parisian club with a décor that includes feather chandeliers, lacy wall patterns, curved booths, and a palette of skin tones and deep reds. The Hard Rock Lounge, meanwhile, channels London in the 1960s with English rock memorabilia and a disco ball bar.

Bling nightclub will offer VIP areas and bottle service. The space, decorated in dark colors with purple and orange accents, includes floating daybeds that double as dance platforms. The Bazaar buffet restaurant features chandeliers made of guitar picks and yellow and while drum-shaped light fixtures.

Hard Rock Hotel Panama Megapolis also offers Rock Spa, the Body Rock gym, Cutz Beauty Salon, a juice bar, a teen area, and a helipad.
