Wyndham, Grand City to rebrand 43 hotels in Europe

Wyndham Hotel Group and Grand City Hotels announced on Wednesday a strategic agreement that will see 43 hotels in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands reflag under Wyndham brands.

Under this agreement, a third of the 120-hotel portfolio of Grand City Hotels, Berlin, will be affiliated with Wyndham Hotel Group, a subsidiary of Wyndham Worldwide, Parsippany, New Jersey. Five properties will be under the Wyndham Grand brand, three under Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, 10 under Wyndham Garden Inn, 17 under Tryp by Wyndham, and eight under Days Inn. Grand City is Germany’s second-largest hotel operator, and all of the hotels are located in Germany with the exception of two, in Antwerp, Belgium, and Amsterdam that will become Tryp by Wyndham properties. The hotels will continue to be managed by Grand City.

“This is, without a doubt, one of the most significant moves we have made to bring our family of lodging brands to Germany, currently one of the strongest markets in Europe,” said Eric Danziger, Wyndham Hotel Group president and CEO. “We are very excited to partner with Grand City Hotels and honored to fly our brand flags on the quality hotels that will now be part of our Wyndham family. We will build on this momentum and expect to experience continued development in the country and throughout the rest of the EMEA region.”

By March 1, the first 33 of the 43 selected locations will be rebranded. The remaining hotels will follow over the next two years. With this deal, Wyndham Hotel Group is introducing the Wyndham brand in Germany, the Wyndham Garden tier in EMEA and the TRYP by Wyndham brand in Belgium and the Netherlands.

“We are more than convinced by Wyndham Hotel Group’s competence, capability and brand image and also believe, looking at the extent of the agreement, we can facilitate a strong and successful entry to the German hotel market for our new partner,” said Christian Windfuhr, Grand City Hotels CEO.
