Accor announces 3 hotels in Myanmar

Accor announced on Tuesday that it will open three hotels in Myanmar, all new-build developments.

The hotels include an MGallery hotel in Naypyidaw, Novotel Yangon Max, and Novotel Mandalay Mingalar.

“We are excited to announce the signing of three new hotels in Myanmar — the first of which will open this year — marking Accor’s return to Myanmar,” said Michael Issenberg, chairman and chief operating Officer for Accor Asia-Pacific. “Southeast Asia has long been a focus market for Accor, and as the country’s tourism industry develops, we see significant growth potential for international hotel operators with long-term experience in the region. These three developments represent yet another step towards our goal of operating 700 hotels in Asia Pacific by 2015.”

Accor, Courcouronnes, France, said the 168-room MGallery hotel in central Naypyidaw, Myanmar’s capital city, will be the city’s first international brand hotel. The hotel will feature one meeting hall, four meeting rooms, a cigar bar and two dining outlets, including an Italian restaurant.

The other two hotels are in Yangon. These include the 366-room Novotel Yangon Max, which is to be completed by the end of 2013. The hotel will include three restaurants, including a rooftop French restaurant, a bar, a 1,000 sq m (10,763 sq ft) banquet room, eight meeting rooms, a swimming pool and wellness center. The 280-room Novotel Mandalay Mingalar is scheduled to open in 2015. The hotel will include two restaurants, two bars, a ballroom, four meeting rooms, a swimming pool, and wellness center.

“With Myanmar expecting a strong increase in international arrivals this year, we look forward to being a part of the development of the country’s tourism infrastructure,” said Robert Murray, chief operating officer, Accor South East and North East Asia.
