Hot Openings: Raffles opens in Manila

Late last year, Raffles Makati opened in Metro Manila in the Philippines—a move it says marks the area’s first luxury hotel opening in 18 years. The hotel celebrated its grand opening in February.

Raffles Makati has 32 suites designed by Singapore-based Bent Severin & Associates. The suites feature wood flooring, Asian design influences, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city. The design is contemporary, with silk velvet, hand-tufted rugs and brightly colored fabrics.

Raffles Makati is part of a development that houses three brands; the other two are Raffles Residences, which offers 237 one- to four-bedroom residences for private ownership; and the 280-key Fairmont Makati. Raffles Makati occupies the ninth and tenth floors of the building.

Raffles has brought its Long Bar from Singapore to Manila; the new location has a similar decor with tropical fans; a tiled floor in black, ivory and terracotta; and a 45-ft-long bar. Raffles Makati also features a library-styled Writers Bar, inspired by the original in Singapore. Dining options include an all-day restaurant, a pastry boutique and two lounges; food and beverage outlets are open to guests of both Raffles and the Fairmont.

The development also includes two outdoor pools with wading pools, children’s pools, and lounges; the Willow Stream Spa, with five treatment rooms and a salon; a fitness center; a business center and event space.
