Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in Chicago has completed a US$110 million expansion and renovation.
The project added a new guestroom tower and renovated food and beverage outlets, meeting space and public areas. tvsdesign created interior and exterior designs for the new tower and led renovations of the existing tower.
The new tower adds 460 guestrooms (including 12 suites and two premium suites) to the pre-existing 800, which have all been renovated. All guestrooms have the same furniture, fixtures and a design that is both modern and residential. The new tower is LEED silver certified, with a green roof and power supplied by wind energy.
The lobby has been expanded and renovated, as well, as have the food and beverage outlets. Shor and M/X lounge has more seating and buffet space and a second private dining room. Daily Grind, the coffee shop, is larger and has a new “fresh market” concept with locally sourced breakfast and lunch menus as well as coffee drinks and snacks.
Hyatt Regency McCormick Place’s 50,000 sq ft (4,645 sq m) of event and meeting space includes the redesigned 4,000-sq-ft (370-sq-m) Prairie Room, with natural light, wood finishes and designer lighting. The 25,000-sq-ft (2,320-sq-m) Hyatt Conference Center has also been completely renovated. In addition to a new business center, the property has three new boardrooms.
The hotel, owned by Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, is now Hyatt’s fourth largest hotel in the world and the fourth largest hotel in Chicago. It is connected to Chicago’s McCormick Place Convention Center via skybridges.
