Ace Hotel Group to enter Latin America

Ace Hotel Group announced its first foray into Latin America after signing an agreement with developer Conservatorio to open the 50-room American Trade Hotel, to be located in Panama City.

Atelier Ace, the creative services team of Ace Hotel Group, Portland, Oregon, will manage the property, which is set to open later this year. The hotel is located in the former headquarters of the American Trade Developing Co. in the historic district of Casco Viejo, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

“Casco reminds me of old Havana,” Alex Calderwood, Ace Hotel Group founder, told The New York Times. “You have these beautiful 16th, 17th and 18th century buildings, some restored, some not, and there’s also this excitement there.”

Los Angeles-based design collective Commune will work with architect Hildegard Vasquez to design the hotel’s public spaces and guestrooms. The hotel will feature meeting and events spaces, a jazz club, restaurant and lobby cafe.

Adjacent to American Trade Hotel will be the American Trade Hall, which will feature 16,000 sq ft (1,486 sq m) of event space.
