What’s Hot: Historic suites check in at London’s Café Royal

Café Royal, which made its hotel debut in London late last year, has introduced six suites, each with unique features highlighting historical periods.

The largest, the Empire Suite, offers more than 2,153 sq ft (200 sq m) of space, including a living room with a Sienna marble dining table, velvet sofas, and leather armchairs. The bedroom has an additional living space as well as a walk-in wardrobe and a study; the bathroom has a rainfall shower, an oversized bathtub and space for treatments. The Empire Suite’s décor includes walls in a golden hue, mirrors supported by gilded griffins, and windows overlooking Regent Street.

The Dome Suite occupies a space that was originally the Club Room of the County Fire Office. The circular space has an open floor plan with rock and roll touches such as a DJ booth and large green bath tub. Two terraces offer views of Westminster, Big Ben and Piccadilly Circus.

The Club Suite draws inspiration from Café Royal’s French heritage, with depictions of Napoleon framed by red and gold gildings in the living room. The living room also features a golden Sienna marble dining table and deep seating in red upholstery. The bedroom is a more contemporary space decorated with Portland stone, similar to the Regent Street façade.

The Celestine Suite, named after the wife of Daniel Nicolas Thevenon, who founded the original Café Royal in 1865, is decorated with soft yellow hues. The bedroom has an additional living space, a walk-in wardrobe and a study.

The Tudor Suite, meanwhile, draws inspiration from the Elizabethan era with details that include an original Tudor fireplace and Jacobean symbols decorating the walls of the living area. Mock Tudor panels appear throughout the suite, which also has a green marble dining table and green velvet sofas. The Tudor Suite also includes a family screening room with yellow seating and leather cabinets.

The Marquis Suite looks out over Piccadilly Circus and Big Ben, with an original Blomfield-esque fireplace serving as the centerpiece of the living space. This suite also includes a Sienna marble dining table and a bedroom with rusticated Portland stone.
