Mangalis launches 4 brands for African expansion

Mangalis Management Group is launching four new hotel brands and plans on investing €315 million (US$425 million) on hotel development in Africa.

The plan calls for developing 15 hotels that Mangalis Management Group, Barcelona, Spain, will manage under the four new brands. The hotels total more than 2,200 guestrooms and suites and are spread across 13 African countries including Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Senegal, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Benin, Cameroon, Congo and Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The four brands include Seen and Seen+, both in the economy segment and Noom Hotels and Noom Résidences, both in the upper-midscale segment.

Seen and Seen+ are “cheap-chic” offerings and feature guestrooms with open-door bathrooms, while Seen+ also will have junior suites. For F&B, Seen hotels will include the Seen Café while the full-service Seen+ will have an all-day dining restaurant featuring buffets and bar as well as and other amenities like a fitness center and swimming pool.

Noom Hotels will be focused on business travelers and feature guestrooms and suites with African art as well as what Mangalis call an “avant-garde” façade. Noom Résidences feature the same design in serviced apartments.

“The African flair and ‘joie-de vivre’ are embedded into our brands values, while the level of operational standards made them ready to be exported in any part of the world where they will bring a fresh perspective,” said Denis Sorin, CEO of Mangalis Management Group. “We believe that the African market has been poorly treated for far too long by regional and international groups, and we intend to bring true international standards and the highest quality of service to a market that is longing for it.”

Mangalis Management Group is the hospitality management arm of Inaugure Hospitality Group, Barcelona, founded in 2011 by the conglomerate Teyliom International, Mauritius. In addition to the 15 hotels it is developing, Mangalis said its objective is to be among the five largest hotels groups active in Africa by adding 25 more properties via management contracts by 2017.
