Kerzner’s Atlantis to enter China via management deal

Kerzner International Holdings announced on Thursday that it signed an agreement with Fosun International to manage the 1,300-room Atlantis, Sanya Hainan, set to open in 2016.

Fosun International, Shanghai, is developing the US$1.5 billion resort, reflecting the change of Kerzner International Holdings, Paradise Island, Bahamas, from an owner-operator to an asset-light management company. In 2012 Kerzner International ceded ownership of its flagship Atlantis Paradise Island and its 50% stake in Atlantis The Palm, located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

“China is the perfect location for our next Atlantis destination resort. This resort is set to quickly become a new landmark in China and will introduce the fun, interactive entertainment experiences at the heart of the Atlantis philosophy,” said Alan Leibman, CEO of Kerzner.

The 62-hectare (153-acre) Atlantis, Sanya Hainan will feature the Aquaventure Waterpark, which will include fresh and salt-water pools, lagoons, an open air marine habitat and a dolphin interaction and education center. Brennan Beer Gorman Architects, New York City, has been engaged for the resort’s architectural design.
