Hot Openings: Viceroy moves into Manhattan

Viceroy Hotel Group opened Viceroy New York earlier this month.

The 240-key hotel is the company’s first branded property in Manhattan. The New York-based firm Roman and Williams handled the architecture and interiors, drawing inspiration from film noir. Details include over-scaled, fluted, cast-glass bricks, brass fluting, black muntined windows, and figured stone, an element of New York buildings from the 20th century whose popularity has since faded.

Guestrooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows with views of Central Park, and amenities include portable audio sound systems, mini-bars with gourmet food and drinks and hotel-branded smartphones with Viceroy Connect, a custom application that allows guests to tailor their visit.

The hotel will offer two additional facilities in upcoming months. On Oct. 28, the hotel will open Kingside, a street-level bar and restaurant that features Marc Murphy’s new American cuisine, in partnership with Gerber Group. The menu includes a raw bar, a variety of small plates, and larger entrees such as pastas, fish, and meats as well as classic cocktails and cold-pressed juices. The 136-seat bar and restaurant will be open daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night dining service, along with in-room dining and delivery. The space has a graphic palette in black and white with bright red stools at the counter and caramel leather banquettes.

The Roof, the hotel’s lounge and outdoor deck, will open in December. Roman and Williams designed the lounge in the style of luxury airliners; notable features include ipe floors, custom walnut-and-leather sofas, and curated photographs of the sky, sea and clouds. The lounge will also offer cocktails and small plates from Kingside.

Viceroy New York also offers a business center with meeting facilities, a fitness center, and indoor swimming pool, and a library.
