What’s Hot: Colorful extended-stay property opening in NYC

The William, a New York City extended-stay hotel, intends to open early next year.

The property, developed by The Kash Group and managed by Warner Hospitality, is located near Bryant Park.

The 33 suites explore monochromatic design in a collaboration between designers Mason Wickham, Edwin Zawadzki and Lilian Bakhash and artist William Engel. Their collaboration and shared studio space result in an overall style the group terms “an extension of Engel’s paintings,” with each suite becoming a “livable three-dimensional painting.”

“Working together atelier-style meant that we literally lived and breathed the Dutch oils used in Bill’s paintings,” Mason Wickham of In Situ Design says in a release. “As a result, the guest rooms are seeped in color that is not decorative, but visceral, three-dimensional and fully immersive.”

The interiors have flexible furnishings inspired by the mid-century modern movement, with floating walls separating living and sleeping spaces. Antique smoked mirrors serve as a reflective backdrop for the bistro-style kitchens. Some suites have outdoor terraces with living and lounging space.

The William’s “Culture Curators” provide information on the city’s art, food, design, pop culture, music and fashion, with a personalized “passport” provided to each guest upon check-in with recommendations of restaurants, shops and must-see sights.

A rooftop will open in the spring of next year; in addition, the hotel will have two food and beverage offerings developed by Jason Hicks of Jones Wood Foundry and Yves Jadot of Raines Law Room. Chef Robert Aikens, formerly of Stephen Starr’s The Dandelion in Philadelphia, will oversee operations at The Peacock and The Shakespeare Pub.

The William Private Circle, the hotel’s private membership program, will carry on the building’s history of housing private organizations; it previously served as The Williams Club, for alumni of Williams College.

The William is currently accepting reservations for stays beginning Jan. 6, 2014.
