Hilton launching tiered Wi-Fi for select service, extended-stay brands

Hilton Worldwide, McLean, Virginia, is rolling out an in-room tiered Wi-Fi option for its select-service and extended-stay brands.

The company has begun testing Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, Homewood Suites by Hilton and Home2 Suites by Hilton brand hotels in the U.S. and anticipates a global rollout throughout the year.

“We are testing various bandwidths. Our premium Internet offering will provide faster download and upload speeds in-room to optimize the experience for guests who want to stream high definition media,” said Josh Weiss, vice president of guest technology at Hilton Worldwide.

As for the rest of Hilton’s brand portfolio, Weiss told HOTELS that while guestroom Wi-Fi charges are set at a hotel level in accordance with their specific market conditions, basic guestroom Wi-Fi service will be free at most of its properties and is one of the benefits available to Hilton HHonors Gold and Diamond members. Hilton also typically offers free Internet access to all guests in lobbies, bars and restaurants.
