What’s Hot: Morgans updates London guestrooms

Morgans Hotel Group has unveiled a new design for guestrooms at its Sanderson and St Martins Lane hotels in London, with what the company says is a renewed emphasis on comfort and simplicity.

Interior designer Tim Andreas of Banjo Ad Inc. worked on the new looks. “This design of Sanderson’s rooms distills a decidedly English decorative approach to modern luxury and comfort,” says Andreas. “St Martins Lane sets a tranquil stage for your London adventure.”

The new Sanderson design has a residential feeling, with Andreas drawing inspiration from 17th-century decorative motifs such as hand-blocked wallpaper, and oak carvings. A new built-in banquette provides space for working and dining; the bespoke “Tchin Tchin” chair in this area is named for Andreas’ dog.

Artist David Hargrove’s hand-painted designs appear on custom blackout shades. The light fixtures, when seen against the custom shades, give the illusion of a full moon. Linda Miller created the rug designs for Sanderson and St Martins Lane’s corridors. The 150 redesigned guestrooms also offer upgraded technological capabilities and USB charging stations.

The 204-key St Martins Lane, meanwhile, uses floor-to-ceiling windows as a backdrop to low, simple guestroom furnishings. The new guestroom design features linen drapery, white swiveling leather chairs, polished aluminum finishes, teardrop light fixtures, and pale leopard-print carpets. Guests can use a dial to select a color for the interactive light feature in each room; new paint in the guestrooms and new dichroic lamination on the glass desks enhance the lighting effect. New minibars have mirrors for a “see-through” illusion, and St Martins Lane also offers updated technology in the guestrooms.
