What’s Hot: The Royal Crescent’s refurbishment

The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa in Bath, England, expects to complete a refurbishment program by the end of the month.

The restoration project adds 21st-century technology while respecting the property’s Georgian roots. The hotel’s owner, Topland Group PLC, hired project manager Brian Cohen and Somerset-based Jayne Clayton Interiors for the refurbishment project.

The property has a 1920s feel, with mirrored furniture and light fittings and silk and velvet fabrics.

The Duke of York Master Suite features a restored plaster ceiling and the original fireplace. Suites are all named for famous Bath residents; the final renovation phase will include the Jane Austen and Sir Percy Blakeney (a nod to Baroness Orczy’s “The Scarlet Pimpernel”) suites, as well as the library, drawing room and pavilion.

The Dower House underwent the first phase of renovations. This building houses 10 bedrooms as well as The Montagu bar and Dower House Restaurant, which now has an updated kitchen for Head Chef David Campbell and his team. The back wall of the restaurant features a silk paper that is hand-painted and embroidered; the floral motif also appears in the wall and ceiling lights. The Montagu bar, meanwhile, has a club-like atmosphere with deep blue walls.

The Spa, formerly known as The Bath House, is a blend of original architecture and modern spa culture, with finishes in bamboo, woods, pebbles and slate. Topland Group brought in Spa Creators to redevelop the spa.
