What’s Hot: J Plus to unveil new look in Hong Kong

The former J Plus Boutique Hotel in Hong Kong will have a new look and a new identity when it reopens May 22.

Yoo Studio, founded by Philippe Starck and John Hitchcox, has refreshed what will now be known as the J Plus Hotel by Yoo.

The main entrance, previously tucked away on Irving Street, has been giving more prominence on Pennington Street, and the lobby has been opened up.

The playful new design incorporates fabrics from designers such as Timorous Beasties, European furniture, and tinted glass panels with Chinese motifs of coins, dragons and bamboo for good fortune. A large panel in the entryway draws inspiration from the Mona Lisa.

The hotel’s 32 studios and 24 suites have a bright design based around four vivid colors.

The hotel is marking the redesign with a year-long style initiative dubbed J+Yoo Style, which will draw upon local artistic talent.
