Leadership change at Macdonald Hotels

After 13 years with the company and six years in the role, David Guile is stepping down as CEO of Macdonald Hotels.

Macdonald Hotels, Bathgate, Scotland, said it is not immediately appointing a replacement for Guile. Instead Donald Macdonald, Macdonald’s executive chairman, will fill in as CEO “for the time being.”

The news comes as the privately held Macdonald saw 7% trading growth year-on-year but a €6.1 million ($10.4 million) loss in 2013. Macdonald recently confirmed a new five-year banking facility totaling £299 million (US$513 million) with Lloyds Banking Group.

“My decision to leave the company has been the toughest decision in my career, particularly as Macdonald Hotels has been a huge part of my life over the last 13 years, but I feel the time is right to move on and pursue other interests,” Guile said. “Following the recent refinancing with Lloyds Banking Group and our continued positive trading performance, the company is well placed for its next phase of development.”
