What’s Hot: Artist-decorated rooms at London boutique

Street art has gone upmarket lately, especially in hotels — think French graffiti artist Tilt’s hotel room. Now, the Andaz London Liverpool Street is the latest hotel to hop on the bandwagon.

The property has announced its “Room With a View” program, in which artists will hand-paint a series of four king rooms. British artists Chris Price, Patrick Vale, ILoveDust and Patrick Morgan have been chosen to participate. Price’s room, which debuted in July and which he co-created with wife and collaborator Delisia Howard, is inspired by East London and, more specifically, the tradition of the Pearly Kings and Queens. They provided the visual jumping-off point for the intricate black-and-white images that decorate the room’s walls.

The other three artists’ rooms will open between October 2014 and April 2015. “Inspirational art is an integral part of Andaz Liverpool Street, and we strive to find new ways to support and celebrate local art, design and British artists,” said Tim Flodin, the hotel’s general manager. “We are incredibly excited to be launching ‘Room With A View’ with such a diverse group of talented artists, for our guests and Londoners alike to experience a view of East London culture at its best at Andaz Liverpool Street.”
