More noteworthy Irish assets change hands

Denver-based telecom billionaire John Malone has reportedly acquired the 163-room Westin hotel in Dublin for €65 million (US$88 million).

After the deal closes next month, the hotel will be operated by Irish firm Lalco Hotel Group under a franchise agreement with Starwood Hotels & Resorts and will become Malone’s third in Dublin with Lalco.

Under the terms of the deal, the current lease on the Westmoreland Street hotel — currently owned by Starwood Hotels & Resorts — will end and the property will move into the franchise agreement.

Malone, the chairman of Liberty Media, has already acquired Trinity City Hotel and the Hilton Dublin Hotel. He is reportedly the largest individual landowner in the U.S., holding close to 2.2 million acres in Maine, Maryland, New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming.
