What’s Hot: Singapore hotel’s locally accented redux

After almost a year of renovation, the Fairmont Singapore has debuted its new look.

Hirsch Bedner Associates and EDG were tapped to give the hotel’s lobby, bar and North Tower guestrooms a fresh style inspired by the local Straits Chinese, or Peranakan, culture. Those touches are set against a background of mostly earthy shades, with rich gray and purple accents in the Premier guestrooms (which are the majority of the tower’s 365 rooms).

However, the design team also wanted to celebrate how global Singapore is. The chandelier in the lobby, with its 800 crystal glass balls, was designed by Petra Dickova and created by Czech manufacturer Lasvit. More local accents adorn the guestrooms corridor. A wooden chair, figurines and a hanging scroll all evoke the local culture. Edible art pieces offer a unique take. The carpet and sheers in the guestrooms were custom-designed to resemble local lace.
