What’s Hot: Swiss resort debuts Presidential Suite

The new face of wellness resort design has moved a long way from the ultra-bare minimalism that defined the Zen-like hotels in the first wave of health-conscious tourism. Today’s offerings are as likely to be designed for the wow factor as for relaxation. Claudio Carbone’s work for the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz’s new Presidential Suite is a case in point.

His vision for the two-bedroom, 3,330-square-foot (300-square-meter) suite revolved around the use of over-the-top, opulent materials woven into a more streamlined design scheme. The focal points here are definitely writ large, from the Swarovski crystal ceiling and the gold dust in the wallpaper to the Venetian glass bubbles that evoke the 289-key resort’s thermal springs. A marble intarsia floor in the entrance instantly sets the tone for the space.

“Here, the guest is truly able to feel the difference — each room offers a unique new experience for the senses,” Carbone said.

This might just mark a new definition of sensory overload.
