What’s Hot: Sonoma County boutique debuts renovation

While urban edginess is enjoying a moment in the spotlight, design that gives guests an evocative, relaxing experience is also a buzzing trend right now. So, the owners of the iconic Farmhouse Inn in Sonoma County, California — Catherine and Joe Bartolomei — decided a multimillion-dollar renovation and expansion (bringing the total room count to 25) would center on enhancing the laid-back wine-country vibe of the property.

The inspiration was the region’s wine barns. For the guestrooms, the design team of SB Architects, Healdsburg’s Myra Hoefer Design and Valley Crest Landscape took that theme fairly literally. White walls provide a clean backdrop. Doors in some of the guestrooms resemble barn doors. Checked blankets evoke stables.

The hotel’s spa has also undergone extensive renovation. It will debut in September. “The support of our loyal guests and the growing interest in this unique wine-country destination inspired us to further enhance the Farmhouse Inn experience,” said Catherine Bartolomei. “It has been our lifelong dream to share our love of the Russian River Valley, and we’re thrilled that our vision of becoming one of the best hotels in the world has become a reality.”
