Hot Openings: Texas hotel melds nature, industry

Put away those cowboy boots. The latest design offerings from Texas prove just why stereotypes aren’t always accurate. Boka Powell’s vision for the Hilton Granite Park eschews that cliché in favor of a neutral-toned aesthetic that reflects both the landscape of the region and its industrial past.

Translating that dictum into a style for the 299-room hotel began with a floorplan that allowed for a generous design statement. An open lobby starts that sentence. The team also wanted to keep that vibe throughout the business areas of the hotel. “We designed the meeting spaces with a looser flow to encourage discovery,” said Dennis Gulseth, project manager, Boka Powell. “Our goal is to provide an experience the guest will remember as they journey through a series of beautiful yet unexpected spaces. The specialty, custom-designed lighting throughout the property makes the hotel come to life.”

The rest of the public spaces — the cocktail bar, a technology lounge, Carso Mediterranean Grill and a grab-and-go outlet — reflect a similar aesthetic of natural-looking surfaces blended with strongly industrial focal points. The hotel’s guestrooms also use texture and material choice to finish off the statement. Oversized headboards add an accent color to the neutral bedding and rich wood tones.
