What’s Hot: Denver hotel’s renovated ground floor

Cool design nowadays requires designers to be mix masters, blending a sophisticated aesthetic with spaces that are livable and inviting. For the redux of the ground floor of the 110-room Hotel Teatro in Denver, Studio Frank’s Catherine Frank wanted to blend the best of the area with the property’s inherent charm.

“When working with a landmark property like Hotel Teatro, I wanted to build on its original, existing greatness,” Frank said. “Our goal was to create a relaxed and sophisticated atmosphere — casually elegant like a vintage suitcase.”

That started with converting the formal dining space into an all-day lounge, “The Study.” Custom metalwork by local artisans fulfills the locale-driven aspect of the design mandate. Suspended chandeliers help bring the coffered ceilings down to human scale. Blue built-ins frame the space.

The renovation also includes the addition of a locally inspired restaurant, The Nickel. The Barrel Bar offers guests a curated barrel-aged cocktail program. The lobby also received a facelift.

“Travelers today are looking for welcoming, unique spaces that are also authentic to the destination they are in,” explained Afsi Bird, general manager of Hotel Teatro. “Our guests will now arrive into The Study, an absolutely beautiful and cozy space where we hope everyone feels at home, just as they would relaxing in the living room of their most interesting friend.”
