What’s Hot: Maldives resort unveils new residence

Hitting the right note with a resort space can be tricky — after all, there’s a fine line between a style that looks relaxing and the “blank” effect that sometimes accompanies a spare aesthetic. For the new Two Bedroom Pool Residence at Naladhu, Maldives, the design team added gravitas to the look with deep wood accents and draperies.

The 1,958-square-foot) 600-square-meter residence uses a heavy wooden door to ground the style from the moment guests enter. Inside, the balance of weight and airiness continues. Chunky wooden sculptures contrast with streamlined modern furnishings. Gray stone helps give the bathroom a sheltered, cool vibe. Outside, white furniture and blue accents pick up the tones in the ocean. The master bedroom uses extensive drapery to add softness to an otherwise spare look.

The resort also includes 19 other residences. Each offers a personal butler service.

The design also allows for a residential, individualist experience — these spaces are about livability as much as style.
