What’s Hot: New York hotel unveils French-inspired bar

Handsome. European. Polished. No, that’s not a description of Hollywood’s latest darling, but it does sum up the design mandate for Stonehill & Taylor’s collaboration with Sydell Group on the new NoMad Bar in New York City. Taking cues from the French aesthetic found throughout the hotel, the two level bar uses rich textures and high-gloss finishes to create an opulent vibe.

Starting with the restoration of the 19th-century façade, the team reintroduced a few selected original elements to help ground the aesthetic in the building’s past.  A bay window serves as an elegant accent. An antique mirror behind the bar provides a further hint of old-world glamour. Marble mosaic floors have a grand feel. Gleaming wood tones enhance the rich style.

For the more modern touches, the team wanted to focus on local elements. Photography by a local artist adorns the walls in a gallery-like corridor on the way to the bathrooms.
