Hot Openings: NYC boutique focuses on craftsmanship

In New York City, the flavor of the day for most boutique hotels has a few things in common — local accents, an uptown-chic-meets-downtown-grit vibe and a painstaking eye for the overall aura of the city. The design team behind the 124-key Hotel Hugo didn’t see anything wrong with that, but designer Marcello Pozzi wanted to add an additional influence to enrich the aesthetic: old-world Italian craftsmanship and materials.

So, alongside the industrial elements and the references to early-20th-century architecture, the hotel’s interior is polished up with accents like Italian walnut paneling. Travertine walls and marble flooring help flesh out the material part of Pozzi’s vision. The same focus on elegant wood tones carries through into the guestrooms. A glass façade and garden walls help bring a more modern edge.

“Hotel Hugo is a jewel box of a hotel in the most thriving and creative neighborhood in Manhattan,” said Morris Moinian, president of Fortuna Realty Group. “We are delighted to bring Hotel Hugo to life in such a vibrant part of the city. We believe that we will offer guests one of the finest all-around hotel experiences in New York City.”
