What’s Hot: D.C. hotel unveils revamped rooftop bar

In a city where history is around every corner, almost any design concept is bound to be tied to that heritage. So for the renovation of POV at the W Washington, D.C., Nemaworkshop knew it wanted to work in the influences of the city, from cherry blossoms to U.S. presidents.

However, the designers wanted to bring that to life in a context that looked urban and modern. So, while they stuck to red, white and blue tones, the space’s overall aesthetic is more edgy than themed. Dramatic diagonal quilting on chairs gives a plush effect. Geometric bar stools coordinate with the pattern of the bar front. Delicate chandeliers give off a subtle light.

Taking a closer look, though, the references are there. Street artist Aiko was commissioned to create walls that reflect local history. The detailing around the bar resembles that on the 18th– and 19th-century buildings in the neighborhood.
