London hotel’s new cocktail menu comes in pop-up form

Long seen as child’s play, the pop-up book is getting a decidedly adult twist at The Beaufort Bar at The Savoy in London.

The bar’s new cocktail menu by Head Bartender Chris Moore takes the form of a hand-drawn, carefully cut, limited-edition pop-up book. Combining traditional and contemporary styles and techniques and working with ink, pencil and digital color, illustrator Joe Wilson collaborated with paper-cutting expert Helen Friel to create the menu.

Each page of the new limited-edition pop-up cocktail menu at The Beaufort Bar at The Savoy illustrates both what the drink will look like and what inspired it.

The menu takes the guest on a journey from light to dark. Beginning with light spirits, florals and citrus, the menu then touches on fruit-based spirits and sweet ingredients before concluding with dark spirits, spicy notes and rich flavors. Specific cocktails include the Impressionist, a cocktail dedicated to Claude Monet and served with a smoking rose, and Ratification, which incorporates Martini Rosato pressure-infused with strawberries.

Numbered editions of the menu, of which there are only 1,000 copies, can be bought for approximately US$80 from Savoy Tea or The Beaufort Bar.
