Hot Openings: New brand debuts in Brisbane

Every brand launches its flagship looking to establish a design DNA that’s instantly recognizable, compelling and memorable. Next Hotel’s 304-key flagship, Next Hotel Brisbane, is no exception. However, the brief for Angela Spathonis of Geyer also included the mandate that the aesthetic work with the hotel’s tech-friendly vibe.

Spathonis translated that into the use of spare, geometric shapes and minimal adornments. Lighting in the restaurant features pendant lights framed in metal cages, while the breakfast area takes an even simpler approach to illumination: single bulbs suspended from the ceiling, some with amber glass shades, some without. That streamlined look continues into the guestrooms, but with a less industrial spin. Wood and glass form the partitions in the space, playing on transparency and opacity. White walls keep the feel modern and airy.

The former Lennons hotel also features Lennons Restaurant & Bar. The first Australian outpost of U.S. retailer Forever 21 is slated to open in the hotel as well.
