Crowne Plaza unveils new guestroom focused on productivity

IHG brand Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, which has spent the past several years working on a multifaceted refresh, on Monday unveiled its next-generation guestroom, which the brand said is designed to meet the needs of the modern business traveler.

Working for the past two years with designers Future Agenda and Pearson Lloyd, Crowne Plaza created a room concept similar to the “working triangle” of a chef’s kitchen. The room aims to allow guests to move freely among three key areas — a cocooned bed, a flexible “nook” and a streamlined workspace. The angled bed has a padded, curved headboard, which along with insulated wall panels on each side of the room reduces noise levels 30%. The nook can be used for informal meetings or to socialize and relax, and the workspace features accessible outlets and adjustable lighting to cater to work demands as well as vanity needs thanks to a hair dryer in the drawer and a mirror above the desk.

While declining to comment regarding the total number of hotels that will refurbish guestrooms, Crowne Plaza said the new guestroom will launch in the Americas region in 2015 at the Crowne Plaza Atlanta Midtown, and the brand added there is an opportunity for a global rollout in the near future. Crowne Plaza also declined to comment about the new room’s cost per key, saying it would vary regionally.
