Accor acquires growing boutique brand

Accor has acquired approximately a 35% stake in the eclectic boutique brand Mama Shelter, which currently includes properties in France in Paris, Marseille, Lyon and Bordeaux as well as Istanbul. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

According to a news release about the acquisition, the partnership gives Mama Shelter access to Accor’s development and distribution network, which will allow it to accelerate its openings. Mama Shelter will open in Los Angeles in February 2015 and also is working on properties in Lille, France; a second location in Paris; Zurich; Mexico City; Seoul; Amsterdam; Barcelona; New York; and London. The brand said it plans to open some 20 hotels worldwide over the next five years.

The deal will allow Accor to expand and enrich its offer with a different type of hotel — “urban retreats” where guests feel at home thanks to the attitude of the teams that run them, according to the release.
