What’s Hot: Hyatt Times Square showcases urban style

All the ingredients for a New York City hotel are fairly well known — it has to be cool, it has to have a vibe that captures the city’s culture and it has to look fresh and contemporary. Hyatt Times Square, the company’s tallest freestanding U.S. hotel, was no exception. The 484-key property’s design strikes a balance between the less-is-more version of the downtown vibe and the quirky takes on “local” that dominate the buzzing boutique sector.

George Wong’s design for the guestrooms focuses on taking a neutral palette and clean lines and adding unexpected touches and vivid accents to create a hint of playfulness. Mounting flatscreen TVs on a nearly wall-sized map offers an element of visual surprise. A brightly patterned chair offers a different take on a focal point.

Span Architecture took a more downtown approach to the rooftop bar. Purple accents create a nightlife vibe. Lighting above the bar resembles a high-end take on beer glasses. Dark tones add an air of mystery.

The hotel also features another dining venue, a spa and a salon with a blow-out bar, in additon to a gym and meeting spaces.
