Hot Openings: Chinese hotel highlights European style

At first glance, you’d never place The Castle Hotel, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Dalian in mainland China.

HBA Interior Design’s styling for the 292-key property draws on the European side of Dalian’s history for a look that’s more Parisian than Asian. A wrought-iron staircase in the lobby evokes the entrance to a historical mansion. Teal drapery above the beds serves as a visual reminder of a four-poster. Patterned carpeting adds another layer of detail. Rich woods and pale walls riff on the color scheme of 18th-century Europe.

However, the team didn’t want to ignore the hotel’s locale. Accents like artwork and the delicate cages surrounding the lighting in the lobby lounge draw on Chinese culture to give the property a local flavor.

“The fact that Starwood has opened five Luxury Collection hotels in China in less than five years, with an even more robust pipeline, reinforces the increasing demand for high-end hospitality where domestic travel continues to thrive,” said Paul James, global brand leader, St. Regis, The Luxury Collection and W Hotels Worldwide. “We are thrilled to debut The Castle Hotel in Dalian, an enchanting city whose diverse cultural heritage blends seamlessly with its modern point of view.”
