What’s Hot: Hong Kong hotel debuts room makeover

Many hotels today seem to need a split design personality. With increasing demand for each guest to have an individualized experience, designers are under pressure to deliver styling that suits diverse tastes.

For Cosmopolitan Hotel Hong Kong’s room redux, that meant creating a calming vibe for the Superior Rooms while retaining an urban glamour for the Premier Rooms.

A pale palette provided a common starting point. Delicate screen patterns also worked for both concepts.

It’s the details that subtly shape the effect in the different room types. Keeping the screens white in the Superior Rooms adds to the spare, Zen edge. Choosing a gilded option for the Premier Rooms lends it a glitzier air and echoes the mirror above the headboard.

This project points to the key concept behind catering to a variety of travelers. Each different room needs to be a riff on the same theme, not a new song. Choosing a few key common elements connects those design dots. Here, those elements combine to give a flexible design shell.
