Shanghai hotel sets breakfast-in-bed record

After rounding up 388 people to eat breakfast in 202 beds in the hotel’s Grand Ballroom November 12, Pudong Shangri-La, East Shanghai set the Guinness World Record for most people eating breakfast in bed.

All participants — many of whom were recovering breast-cancer patients from More than Aware association or kids from Children’s Hospital of Fudan University — were lying in their beds and eating from a tray with both legs on the bed and their back on the headboard, as official rules stipulated.

The 388 participants who set the breakfast-in-bed world record at Pudong Shangri-La, East Shanghai were offered a menu of steamed barbecue bun, Singaporean-style noodles, crispy spring roll, hash browns, seasonal fruit and orange juice.

The previous world record for breakfast in bed involved 289 participants in Sydney on March 2, 2012.

This is the third time the hotel has created a new world record, with previous successes including creating the world’s longest Yule-log cake in 2011 and most people blowing out a candle simultaneously in support of Earth Hour in 2013.
