Hot Openings: Thompson makes Miami debut

Mid-century chic has never been hotter than it is right now, so it’s not surprising that was the jumping off point for Martin Brudnizki’s vision for Thompson Miami Beach. The Art Deco tower (restored by Kobi Karp Artchitects) that houses the 380-key property opening Friday might predate that aesthetic, but Brudinski saw it as the perfect backdrop.

A huge crystal chandelier sets the opulent tone. Michelle Bernstein’s Seagrape Restaurant continues the midcentury vibe with light oak tables and a mix of vintage pieces. In the guestrooms, ithe beds and nautically accented bathrooms reference the era.

The hotel also features the freestanding 1930s house (moved to the site in the early 2000s), a spa, a fitness center, meeting spaces as well as two pools and a Raymond Jungles-designed garden.

“The opening of Thompson Miami Beach signals a major milestone in the growth and development of the Thompson brand,” said Niki Leondakis, CEO, Commune Hotels & Resorts. “It is the first project to bear the brand name in the Southeast U.S. and truly showcases what our collection is about: a hotel experience that encapsulates the lifestyle and personality of the local community. Our teams have worked tirelessly to execute a vision we are confident will add a new, refreshing element to this flourishing market.”
