What’s Hot: California landmark unveils renovation

The  La Quinta Resort & Club, a Waldorf Astoria Resort, has unveiled a multi-million dollar redux.  Designers Smith& Firestone looked to the rugged California setting for their inspiration for the overhaul of the hotel’s 620 casitas and suites and 98 villas.

Taking a more abstract view of locally-inspired design, the team wanted their vision to reflect both the landscape and the glitz and glamour of the hotel’s history. The natural inspiration started with the colors. The palette starts off with maple wood tones and ivory, terracotta and chocolates hues.  Leather elements and nail studded headboards hint at the rougher side of California cool. Boldly geometric shapes and arched mirrors bring a refinement to balance that masculine edge.

For the Hollywood aspect of the design, the team layered detail into the design scheme. Pattern carpet in the Capra Suite evokes the Art Deco era of the hotel’s construction.  Delicate lines to the furniture in the patio spaces hints at the opulent chic of the 1930’s.
