Breastfeeding policy causes uproar at Claridge’s

A request by hotel staff on Friday for a breast-feeding woman to cover up with an over-sized napkin and be more discreet while in a restaurant at Claridge’s in London has led to a public relations fiasco for the hotel.

In fact, on Monday, women staged a mass breastfeeding protest outside the hotel in support of the Free to Feed organization and called for the hotel to change its policy. Emily Slough created the campaign group in March after being labeled a “tramp” for public breastfeeding.

At press time, Claridge’s had not made any policy changes and stated women are free to breast feed in public as long as they do so in a discreet manner.

The situation became a public story after a woman tweeted a picture of herself showing the “ridiculous shroud” she had been asked to cover herself with by a waiter to avoid offending other guests.
