Hot Openings: Meliá opens hotel in Bali

Locally inspired design is so popular that it runs the risk of becoming a cliché. And, that’s especially true for destinations as distinctive and exotic as Bali. So, when it came time to design the Meliá Ubud, the team had to put their own spin on the stereotypical universe of materials that dominate Indonesian resorts.

Since just relying on dark woods and beautiful carving wasn’t going to get the 49-key property a style of its own, the team decided to mix in an element of visual surprise with streamlined, geometric elements that balance the delicate, involved woodworking the region is known for. Simple tables in the lounge provide aesthetic calm. The guestrooms’ furniture tends to straight lines and a neutral color scheme.

The property will be the company’s fourth in Bali. “The Meliá brand has been present in Bali almost 30 years being part of the development of the destination,” said Bernardo Cabot, vice president Asia Pacific, Meliá Hotels International. “We are very excited adding Meliá Ubud to our portfolio, giving our clients additional accommodation options and increasing our cross selling opportunity between our properties in Nusa Dua, Benoa and Legian.”
