What’s Hot: Curaçao resort shows off laid-back style

Whether in fashion or hospitality, resort style is an animal all its own. Resort spaces need to be serene and relaxing. And, it has to reflect the property’s location in a way that feels authentic.  For Curaçao’s Acoya Hotel Suites and Villas, the design team also needed to address the challenge of adding a more urban element to the look of this 200-room property.

So, they eschewed some parts of the stereotypical neutral-and-wood scheme of resort design. Yes, the guestrooms still have creamy walls and large windows. But, for spaces like the villa’s living room, those natural materials give way to modern gray chairs and geometric tables.

Projects like this point up how important outside the box thinking really is. No design brief should ever be met with more of the same, no matter how codified it might seem.  Just rethinking something like the coffee tables helps give the spaces a differentiated style.
