W Taipei presents the Food Re-design Project

W Taipei and the Taiwan Design Center (TDC) presented the 2014 Re-design TDC x W Taipei on December 15. The presentation included a theatrical performance of a fantasy restaurant on stage showing how guests can become more playful through food and design. This is the second year that W Taipei collaborated with TDC for the project.

The project officially began on July 4 with Taiwanese designers Alice Wang, Spencer Hung, Chou Yu-Jui, Balance Wu, Jerry Shiang, Jimmy Chang, Kevin Lin, Lance Han and Cheng Hung. The designer’s collaborated with Colin Chun, executive chef at W Taipei, to create design proposals for utensils, space and dining style with local Taiwanese elements and culture.

Examples of the Re-design elements include tableware inspired by the Song dynasty, wine bottles used as vases and popsicles in the shape of fish.

“It’s so thrilling to see the momentum of Taiwan design shimmering again at our hotel and on the W Hotels Worldwide stage,” said Cary Gray, W Taipei’s general manager.
