Hot Openings: Vietnam hotel to show off Italian chic

Whether it’s a hotel or a garden, transplants add variety but take some extra care to thrive. That’s especially true when it comes to adding a sense of place in an unusual context. So, when designer Kent Lui started his design board for the 286-key The Reverie Saigon based on the ownership’s very specific vision, he knew he had his work cut out for him. The goal? Marrying the richness of Italian chic with a modern cool that speaks loudly and carries a big design punch.

He started by turning to several different Italian design houses for an authentic version of the look. Provasi, Colombo Stile, Visionnaire and Giorgetti each contributed furniture to some of the rooms, helping create a unique vibe for each room type (there will be 12). Ornate detailing in many of the rooms adds a theatrical flourish.

The hotel’s five dining venues keep up the drama. Golden walls glow and marble columns bring in a grand feel. This project is a case in point for the “more is more” design philosophy.
