Hot Openings: Paris hotel shows off opulent style

No matter how modern or slick hotels can get, there’s always a place for hospitality design that celebrates the best of the past and reinterprets it in a modern context.  Whether it’s a restoration project done with exquisite attention to detail or a hotel that selectively pulls a few antiques into the look, old school doesn’t have to mean been there, seen that.

This idea was the driving force behind Michel Reybier and Jacques Garcia’s vision for La Réserve Paris Hotel and Spa. The jumping off point for the design was the gilded richness of Paris in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Antique furniture and muted tones bear out that inspiration.

But, Garcia also knew that that he had to provide an aesthetic balance in the 26 rooms, 14 suites and public spaces. Pale walls give the guestrooms a lighter feel than the typical shades of Belle Epoque décor. Simple coffee tables tone down the intricacy of teal brocade.
