Hot Openings: Columbus hotel to showcase art

Art hotels are some of the trendiest properties around the world, from London to Melbourne. They’re even cropping up in secondary and even tertiary markets. So, it’s no surprise to see one debuting in Columbus, Ohio. Opening in March, The Joseph (developed in partnership with Starwood Hotels & Resorts’ Le Méridien flag), is the brainchild of local real estate developers Joel and Ron Pizzuti.

Setting the design framework for a collection that includes works as diverse as KAWS and wallpaper by Almond Zigmund meant finding an aesthetic that was flexible enough not to clash with any of the pieces, but also made a strong enough statement to stand alongside them.

Warm wood tones form a backdrop for the artwork.

Bold colors help set the stage. Mustard chairs sit on top of a marble floor and ball-shaped accent pieces add graphic impact. Black accents cater to the need for drama without being overly gaudy or too visually invasive.
