When it comes to resort design, the bar continues to get higher. Especially for ultra-luxury resorts, all the classic luxe touches still have to be there-beautiful materials, lots of light, pristine views and a certain airy quality. But, today’s resorts also have to answer the aesthetic needs of guests whose taste tend to more urban styling.
For the renovation of the 42-casita Amanpulo, the team’s redux of the spaces included not just adding timbered ceilings, but giving the spaces a slick design lift. Streamlined golden wood pieces would look just as much at home in New York as on the private island in the Philippines that houses Amanpulo.
Aman Resorts will also translate that chic vibe to the Amandira cruiser, set to debut in April 2015. The two-masted ship (with a capacity of 10 guests) owes its basic design to a traditional local boat used for fishing and cargo. Inside, though, the same glossy tones inform its style.
