Hot Openings: Key West hotel with sophisticated vibe

Florida’s reputation as hotbed for laid-back, beachy cool isn’t going to be challenged any day soon. From bright white bedding to tropical touches, the hallmarks of the Sunshine State look are very much intact. But, as projects like 96-key The Marker Waterfront Resort demonstrate, the look has also evolved into a more grown-up aesthetic.

Polish dominates the style of the Key West property. The high-impact lobby space makes the most of large windows and paneled walls to show off punchy artwork. Clean lines in the guestrooms work as a backdrop for vivid blue accent bedding and a subtle rendition of cresting ocean waves can be found in the carpet. White subway tile in the bathrooms grounds the look.

“The Marker tells the story of a modern day Key West with understated hints to ‘Old Florida Luxury,’” says Singh Company’s Ann Johnson, who spearheaded the property’s interior design. “The vision for The Marker was to create an authentic experience and strong sense of place that celebrates the Key West community and the hotel’s historic Old Town and waterfront location.”
